In 2020 HIST317 - NZ History, a third year undergraduate History course at Victoria University of Wellington, focused on 'British and Irish migration to New Zealand 1800-1945'.
For the final assignment, students were asked to create a research question of their choosing within that broad course description, carry out primary research into the question, and create a short blog post, 1 timeline entry, and a visualisation of their choosing about that research, as well as a report about their research and the process of creating these digital outputs, in lieu of a traditional undergraduate essay.
The digital outputs of the students who chose to share their submitted work for this website features here.
The timeline below includes one entry from each student, relating to their research questions but all broadly related to the overall topic of the course.
See here for some examples of work from students in 2018. That page includes examples of other assignments in the course such as a research proposal and a source digitisation and accompanying report, as well as examples of the elements of the final assignment. The full website for 2018 work is available here.
